Why you should hire the professionals, and why Southwest Greens of Tucson is #1 for installation practices.
Maybe you’re asking yourself, “Can I install artificial grass myself?” Sure, you could install artificial grass yourself, but it’s not a simple task. The tools and equipment you need cost a lot, it takes a long time to do it yourself, and you could run the risk of voiding any warranties on the turf. So, let’s take a look at why you really should have your synthetic golf turf professionally installed and artificial turf installation best practices.
WHY PROFESSIONAL ARTIFICIAL GRASS INSTALLATION
Regardless if you’re looking to add an artificial golf green to your home, or you’re managing a commercial golf course, having artificial turf installed professionally will save you headaches, time, and money — and, in the long run, give you a better-looking green.
Saved Time
Even tiny DIY projects can easily evolve into a big to-do. We’ve all been there. Excessive trips to the big box store for supplies or tools we didn’t realize we need, plans not going to plan, many days of back-breaking work? Choosing to have your turf professionally installed, you will save a lot of time, and be able to enjoy the greens sooner.
In order to properly install artificial golf greens, you need to level the ground, add a base of crushed aggregate, add padding, place the turf, add infill, and roll the turf to get the best playability and to make it look realistic. Trimming edges for clean borders can also be tricky and requires a lot of experience to get it just right. All of this necessitates some specialized tools and knowledge to install correctly and avoid messy sections and/or edges that end up peeling up creating a terrible looking green.
Difficult Soil/Landscape
An ideal soil is scarce. Most property owners can vouch for this. It is quite rare to be able to get your shovel into the soil without problems. Instead, we have to struggle with stones, clay, or soil overrun with root systems from nearby plants and trees in many places. Even digging can be tiring work. Plus, if you are digging into roots, you could be killing surrounding plants you might want to keep.
On many of our installations, we have had to deal with obstacles such as large boulders, old (and new) irrigation lines, stumps, to name a few. Each of these items must be repurposed or removed. Excavation also produces tons of soil you do not have a use for — what will you do with it? Frequently we have to move this leftover soil offsite.
A pro artificial turf installer can coordinate all of this . So if you’re not wanting to do very difficult manual labor or won’t know how to handle your excavated soil, hiring an installer for your project is your best bet.
Large Areas
When installing a golf green in a large area, seaming is one of the trickiest aspects of the turf to install correctly. This is the way two or more pieces are joined together. Seeming is like carpet installation, when the seams of artificial turf are joined the right way, they are not noticeable. Seams not blended correctly will stand out and provide an unattractive finished product.
Imagine rolling up a poster or piece of paper. Do you always get it perfectly aligned when attempting to execute a good roll? Sometimes instead of a clean edge, end up with paper sticking out on one end. This same thing is possible when seaming artificial turf. One minor mistake in the beginning will ruin the whole project and look bad when finished. Professional installers will have a lot of experience installing seams and they’ll make sure everything looks great before they are finished.
THE SOUTHWEST GREENS WAY
There are three distinct things that differentiate Southwest Greens of Tucson from everyone else in the turf industry — craftsmanship, guarantees, and customer service. We do not believe in cookie-cutter artificial turf installations, and because of that, we’ve mastered the art and science of Tucson artificial turf installation. We have honed our process with at least 6,000 golf greens across the globe under our belts.
Take a quick look at how our artificial putting green installation process works.
- A base made of crushed aggregate, which can be moistened and molded to create challenging breaks and undulations, unlike concrete.
- Next, we install at least a cushion pad to assist the ball roll and shot absorption, next comes our state-of-the-art polypropylene turf material that is used to replicate the bright green color, softness, and playability of real grass.
- We then in-fill the turf with a formulation of fine-coated silica sand to give it the touch and feel of organic grass.
- Finally, the tops are rolled to give the effect of natural bent grass green. Options available are installing first and second cuts fringe, sand traps, bunkers, fairways, and roughs.
